Tonya was “discovered” at the age of 8 at
the 2003 finals of “Eurosong for Kids” when she came 2nd with her own song
'Hé doe maar mee'. Now 13 years old she has become a well-established figure
in the world of children's music having brought out 8 singles, 2 full CDs,
a book and a DVD.
This year –2008– exactly 5 years since her initial success, she is still
active in this field and is still doing what she likes doing best-singing
and dancing! This 5th anniversary will be celebrated with a live “singing
and dancing” show which will coincide with the release of her new summer single
“Ik wil zingen, ik wil dansen”.
At first sight there is nothing special about bringing out a new disc except
that this one has two parts: on one hand there is the Flemish version of the
song “Ik wil zingen, ik wil dansen” and on the other the French version “Quand
je chante, quand je danse”. A 'first' for Belgium! To the best of our knowledge
this is the first time that a song has been launched in the two languages
simultaneously.
From the start of her career in song-writing in Flanders her compositions
have always been characterised by the pure and sincere message of her songs.
Tonya writes both the music and the Dutch words herself. This latest song
has been translated into French by Eric Baranyanka, the well known children's
entertainer and, amongst other things, presenter of children's programmes
on the Flemish Ketnet channel.
